I just got off the boat
I didn’t cross the ocean, but I feel like I just got off the boat. An immigrant to a new country.
Although I’ve been a citizen of the internet universe, I’ve only recently entered the blogging world.
The gazillion existing blogging communities are like little countries, each with their own code of ethics and rules of conduct. Some citizens abide by the rules, while others exercise their right to push the boundaries of social tolerance and engage in verbal graffiti. I guess it takes all kinds for the countries to thrive.
I’m an immigrant, unsure of my steps, wanting to participate fully in my adopted country but also wanting to keep my own accented voice.
Some folks from the welcome wagon have come by for some small talk and I suppose, to judge my character. Their visits are particularly helpful because I’m trying very hard to learn the language and to fit in.
In the next couple of days I might head down to the nearby market place and see the sites. I like this country.
